- This article is for Carbonite Safe – View the Carbonite Safe Backup Pro article
By default, your Carbonite Safe subscription will automatically renew on the expiration date with your existing plan and subscription length. However, you may need to add a new credit card and enable it as the default to ensure the purchase is successful. With automatic renewal disabled, your subscription can only be renewed manually.

Step 1: Add a New Credit Card as the Default (For Updates to Existing Cards and New Cards)
You can check your Carbonite Safe account to confirm there are valid credit cards on files at https://account.carbonite.com/Account/CreditCards or with the button below.
After you log into your Carbonite Safe account, you will see a list of the credit cards on file. The “Default Credit card” will be the card used for automatic renewal purchases at the date of expiration.
- If there are updates that need to be made to the card or the card is not on file, click Add a New Credit Card and enter the details. After the new card is added, it will be made the default card for future renewals.
- If you see the credit card that you want to use and it is not the default, click Make this the default card.
After a valid credit card is on file, you can choose a renewal option.
Step 2: Choose a Renewal Option
After you have added a new card or selected it as the default card, you can choose one of the following renewal methods.
- Enable Auto-Renew: If your plan is about to expire, choose this option to automatically renew your subscription at the expiration date.
- Manually Renew: If your plan recently expired or you would like to manually renew, choose this option to renew your Carbonite subscription today.
