Updating to the Latest Version of Carbonite Safe Server Backup

Carbonite Safe Server Backup (CSSB) can be updated by downloading and running a new instance of the installer. Updates are performed in-place, thus preserving backup set information, and do not require a reboot to complete.
The latest version will differ depending on the operating system.
- For modern operating systems—Windows 7, Server 2008 R2 (excluding Server 2008), and newer—the latest version is CSSB 6.4
- For legacy operating systems—Windows XP, Vista, Server 2003, and Server 2008 (excluding Server 2008 R2)—the latest version is CSSB 5.6.
You can update to the latest version of CSSB from the Install Server download page within your Carbonite account dashboard. To begin, click the button below.
Update Carbonite Safe Server Backup
Doing so will bring you to the Install Server download page. Please follow the instructions below for your operating system and CSSB version.

From the Install Carbonite Safe Server Backup page, click the green Download the installer button under Download & run the installer to download the Smart Installer.
Running the Smart Installer will perform an in-place update to CSSB version 6.4.

From the Install Carbonite Safe Server Backup page, click the Download this installer link for machines running XP, Server 2003, Vista, or Server 2008 (excluding R2).
Running the CSSB Classic Installer will perform an in-place upgrade to CSSB version 5.6.
