Carbonite Safe Backup Pro Restore Checklist (Mac 2x)

In an effort to simplify the Carbonite restore process, we have taken all of the articles necessary to perform a restore and placed them in numbered sections below. This guide will assist you with performing a restore of all of your files to a new computer. Please click on each section as you go through to display the content within.

The sections below are collapsed. Please click a section title to open / close the appropriate section.

Step 1: Transfer Carbonite To Your New Computer

If your computer crashes or if you get a new computer to replace an old one, you can transfer your current Mac subscription to another Mac computer. When you transfer your subscription, you can restore your files that were backed up by Carbonite.

Sign into your account at https://account.carbonite.com from the computer you wish to transfer Carbonite to. You will see a list of computers under your account.

If you have signed in as an Administrator, please select your username from the Dashboard.

Select Reinstall on this computer from the Computer Actions drop down menu.

Click Reinstall on this computer

Click Download Now and follow the instructions to complete the installation. You may be taken through the Restore Assistant. If you do not wish to restore files to this new computer, please indicate that you do not wish to restore your files and resume your backup. Any files not restored to your new computer will be removed from your backup within 30 days.

Step 2: Carbonite Restore Assistant

During the installation, you will be prompted to transfer your subscription and restore your files or start a new backup. When Get all files back is selected, a textbox appears beneath the option that contains a directory. This is the directory where your files will be restored. To change this directory, click the Change button and enter a new directory. Click Continue to start restoring your files.

If you do not need to restore all of your files, you can close the installer and restore specific files or folders. After you select the files and folders you want to restore, you can then skip to Step 3. Files that are not restored will be removed from Carbonite after 60 days if the files are not present on your computer.
