Entering and Exiting Recover Mode

When Carbonite backs up, it scans and removes backed up files that are deleted or missing from the computer based on your Carbonite plan. Recover Mode stops the backup and pauses this timer, so you have enough time to restore deleted files or move Carbonite to another computer without any complications.

The sections below are collapsed. Please click the section title to open / close a particular section.

Entering Recover Mode

You can enter Recover Mode to pause the timer that Carbonite uses to remove deleted files from your Carbonite backup.

Carbonite automatically enters Recover Mode if you install Carbonite on a new or repaired computer.

To manually enter Recover Mode, follow the steps below.

  1. Click the Show hidden icons arrow near your Windows clock.
Windows Trey: Click Show hidden icons.
  2. Right-click the Carbonite icon and select Enter Recover Mode.
    Enter Recover Mode

If you have successfully entered Recover Mode, the Carbonite icon will display a down arrow.

When in Recover Mode, you can safely restore all of your files or restore individual files and folders.

Exiting Recover Mode

You can exit Recover Mode to resume your Carbonite backup. Depending on your Carbonite plan, the timer will also resume, which will remove deleted or missing computer files from your Carbonite backup after a specified amount of time. Refer to the table below for more information.
