Smart Installer has Stopped Working

The Smart Installer for Carbonite Safe Server Backup (CSSB) ensures the computer has CSSB’s prerequisites installed and updates the CSSB software to the latest available version. The Smart Installer is compatible only with modern operating systems.

The CSSB Smart Installer will not run on the legacy operating systems listed below.

Windows XP
Windows Vista
Windows Server 2003
Windows Server 2008

Attempting to run the CSSB Smart Installer on a legacy operating system will result in an error, CSBSmartInstaller has stopped working.

To resolve, please run the full Carbonite Safe Server Backup 5.x installer instead.

First, log into your account dashboard and navigate to the available on the Install Carbonite Safe Server Backup page. From the Install Server page, click the Download this installer link for machines running XP, Server 2003, Vista, or Server 2008.

Downloading the cloud certificate is not necessary when updating an existing instance of Carbonite Safe Server Backup. The green button to install Carbonite Safe Server Backup is not compatible with legacy operating systems and will error if run on an incompatible operating system.

Running the CSSB Classic Installer will perform an in-place upgrade to CSSB version 5.6.

Definitions

Restore: The act of downloading your backed up files from our servers to your computer.
Back up: The act of uploading a copy of your files to our servers for safekeeping.
Backup: This is the copy of files that you've backed up to our servers.
InfoCenter: This is the Carbonite user interface on the Windows version of the product.
Carbonite Backup Drive (CBUD): this is your interface into what's in your backup and how you can restore files or remove files from your backup.
Dots: We place colored status dots on your files in order for you to quickly see what's backed up.
Frozen for safekeeping (freeze backup / frozen mode) : This is a state that you can place Carbonite in to let you safely restore your backup. While in this state, no files or changes will be backed up to our servers.
