Importing into Windows Live Mail

After you have restored your Windows Live Mail files, you can import them back into the program. If you've already restored what you need, we can direct you in how to import. If you still need to restore the data, this article will guide you through that process. Choose the option below that best fits your situation.

How to Restore Your Windows Live Mail Data
In here we'll guide you through restoring your Windows Live Mail data and then on how to import it into the Windows Live Mail program. There are a couple of things that need to be in place for the restore and import to work.
- Ensure Windows Live Mail is installed on your computer.
- Ensure Recover Mode is enabled. Recover mode stops the backup, preventing further changes until after you've restored your files.
Let's begin by opening the Carbonite Backup Drive through the File Explorer window (alternatively called Windows Explorer in older Windows operating systems). Do this by double-clicking the Carbonite Backup Drive icon.
You'll see the Carbonite Backup Drive displayed. This shows all of the files in your backupA set of copies of your files on our servers. organized the same way they are on your computer.
Double-click the Backed Up Files icon.
Once the Carbonite Backup Drive is open, browse to the location of your Windows Live Mail files to restore them.
- Your Live Mail files are typically stored in the following location:
- C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\
- Within the Carbonite Backup Drive, right-click on the Windows Live Mail folder and select Restore To.
- Within the Browse for Folder window, select Desktop and click OK. (You will need to wait until the restore has completed before proceeding further.)
Note
- [User Name] will vary. If you do not see your own name, your files are most likely in a generically-named folder, such as Owner or User.
Importing Windows Live Mail data into Windows Live Mail
- From within Windows Live Mail, select File; Import; Messages. If you do not see the File option in the menu, press the ALT key on your keyboard.
- From the list, select Windows Live Mail and click Next.
- Click Browse, navigate to the location where you restored your Windows Live Mail data, and click OK.
- Follow the on-screen prompts from there to complete the import.
Notes

Once you have completed restoring your data and have it successfully imported into the program, please exit Recover Mode to resume normal backup operations.
