Entering and Exiting Recover Mode

When Carbonite backs up, it scans and removes backed up files that are deleted or missing from the computer based on your Carbonite plan. Recover Mode stops the backup and pauses this timer, so you have enough time to restore deleted files or move Carbonite to another computer without any complications.

You can enter Recover Mode to pause the timer that Carbonite uses to remove deleted files from your Carbonite backup.
To manually enter Recover Mode, follow the steps below.
- Click the Show hidden icons arrow near your Windows clock.
- Right-click the Carbonite icon and select Enter Recover Mode.
If you have successfully entered Recover Mode, the Carbonite icon will display a down arrow.
When in Recover Mode, you can safely restore all of your files or restore individual files and folders.
You can exit Recover Mode to resume your Carbonite backup. Depending on your Carbonite plan, the timer will also resume, which will remove deleted or missing computer files from your Carbonite backup after a specified amount of time. Refer to the table below for more information.

To exit Recover Mode, follow the steps below.
- Click the Show hidden icons arrow near your Windows clock.
- Right-click the Carbonite icon and select Exit Recover Mode.
- Check the box that states, “I understand that any files I did not get back will be deleted from my backup in 30 days” and Resume my backup.
If you have successfully exited Recover Mode, the Carbonite icon will no longer display a down arrow and Carbonite will begin backing up your selected files.
