Updating to the Latest Version of Carbonite Safe

To ensure you have the most recent security and software improvements, we recommend updating Carbonite to the latest product version. Once the free update completes, Carbonite will resume your backup automatically. You can update Carbonite with the button below.

Update Carbonite

Once downloaded, you can update Carbonite by clicking Run on your web browser or finding the CarboniteSetup file in your downloads and double-clicking on it. Please reference the instructions below if you need further guidance.

Updating Carbonite with Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer

When you download Carbonite with Internet Explorer, you’ll see a Run or Save box at the bottom of the window. Click Run to open the CarboniteSetup file and start the installation.

Note: If you don’t see this, press CTRL+J on your keyboard and double-click the CarboniteSetup from there.

After running the installer, the Terms of Service will be displayed. Click I agree and follow the prompts to complete the installation.

Once reinstalled, Carbonite will be on the latest version and your backup will resume automatically.

Updating Carbonite with Google Chrome

When you download Carbonite with Google Chrome, you’ll see the CarboniteSetup file appear in the bottom left hand corner. Click the CarboniteSetup file.

Note: If you don’t see this, press CTRL+J on your keyboard and double-click the CarboniteSetup from there.

After running the installer, the Terms of Service will be displayed. Click I agree and follow the prompts to complete the installation.

Once reinstalled, Carbonite will be on the latest version and your backup will resume automatically.

Updating Carbonite with Mozilla Firefox

When you download Carbonite with Mozilla Firefox, a pop-up will prompt you to save the file. Click Save File, then click the CarboniteSetup from your downloads folder.

After running the installer, the Terms of Service will be displayed. Click I agree and follow the prompts to complete the installation.

Once reinstalled, Carbonite will be on the latest version and your backup will resume automatically.

Verifying Your Update

To verify that the update has completed, open the Carbonite application and navigate to the My account page. Your software version is listed near the center of the window. There will be subtext below the version informing you that "Your software is up-to-date."

For further confirmation, you can compare the version number you see to the version number of the latest release.

If your software version matches the latest product version, your update was successful.
