AVG LinkScanner Conflicting with Carbonite InfoCenter / Application
- This article is for Windows only
AVG LinkScanner and Online Shield may make the Carbonite InfoCenter / application and Restore Manager appear distorted. These services can prevent the information displayed within the Carbonite InfoCenter / application from updating in real time or cause a gray screen to appear over the Restore Manager window, preventing you from viewing the progress of your restore.
These instructions will only temporarily resolve the issue you are experiencing and may appear again if you restart your computer or the Carbonite service restarts for any reason. If you started a restore, your restore will still be progressing in the background. You will just be unable to view the status.
- Locate and open AVG on your computer
- Within AVG, open Web Browsing Settings
- From the this section, temporarily disable both LinkScanner and Online Shield*
- * Online Shield may not be an option on your version of AVG. If so, then only do the LinkScanner selection.
- Open your Task Manager, by right-clicking your taskbar on the bottom of your screen and selecting Task Manager
- Within the Processes tab, locate the Carbonite User Interface or CarboniteUI.exe process in the list
- Select it and click End Task or End Process. Confirm to end the process if another screen pops up.
- On your desktop, double-click the Carbonite icon to view any backup status changes. If you are trying to view your Restore Progress, right-click the Carbonite Icon in your Windows Notification area and select View Restore Progress...
