Accessing Your Backup on an iOS Device

To use the Carbonite Mobile app after it has been installed, open your list of apps and tap the Carbonite icon to open the app.

Once Carbonite Mobile is open, log into your Carbonite account with your Carbonite email address and password if you are not already logged in.

After you have logged into your account, you will see a list of your backed up devices. To view your backed up Carbonite files, tap the name of your computer.

Select your method of viewing your Backup

There are two different ways to browse your backed up files using the Carbonite Mobile app. Please choose your method of choice below:

Navigating Through the User View (Recommended)

This method involves you tapping the User your files are stored in, then tapping the type of file you are looking to download.

Click on the user name to bring up a new screen to assist you in choosing the file to download.

Navigate to the file you wish to restore

On this screen you will see different file types. Select the type of file you are looking for (e.g. Pictures, Documents, Music, or files saved on your Desktop).

  • Pictures - This will display your Pictures folder under your user name.
  • Documents - This will display your Documents folder under your user name.
  • Music - This will display your Music folder under your user name.
  • Desktop - This will display any files which have been saved on your desktop and backed up with Carbonite.
    • Your desktop is the main screen you see after logging in to your user account. This does not include any shortcuts to files and programs.
  • More Files... - This will display all of your user's special folders, including Downloads and Favorites.

Tap on the file to open it with the associated program. To view a list of sharing and saving options, tap the icon in the top right of the screen.

  • Email - This attaches the file to an email so you can send it to friends and family.
  • Open in... - This lets you choose another app to open the file.
  • Print - This lets you connect to a printer to print the file.
  • Save Image - This saves the file to your iOS device. If it is a photo, it will save directly to your photos.

Once the file has been loaded, you will be able to view it through your device.

If you do not have an app on your phone that can view or edit the file, you will not be able to do so.

Should you have difficulty with viewing or accessing your backed up Carbonite files, please try uninstalling and reinstalling the app from your device.

Navigating Through the Explorer View

This method involves you tapping the drive letter your files are stored in and navigating through the path until you find the file in question.

Tap the drive letter and navigate through the folders until you reach the location of the file you want to download.

Navigate to the file you wish to restore

Tap on the file to open it with the associated program. To view a list of sharing and saving options, tap the icon in the top right of the screen.

Open the file
  • Email - This attaches the file to an email and lets you send it to friends and family.
  • Open in... - This lets you choose another app to open the file.
  • Print - This lets you connect to a printer to print the file.
  • Save Image - This saves the file to your iOS device. If it is an photo, it will save directly to your camera roll.

Once the file has been loaded, you will be able to view it through your device.
