Determining Your Mac Chip for Courier Recovery

Summary:

After you request Courier Recovery (Safe | Safe Pro), Carbonite needs to know if you plan to restore to a Mac with an Apple M1 chip. If you have an M1 chip, Carbonite will format the external drive to exFat to make the restore compatible.

This article applies to:

Carbonite Plans Products Platforms
Basic, Plus, Prime, Core, Power, and Ultimate (Not sure?) Safe and Safe Pro (Not sure?) Mac

Solution:

  1. From the Apple logo menu, select About this Mac.
From the Apple logo menu, select About This Mac
  2. Check to see whether you have a chip or processor:

About This Mac: Chip or Processor appears
    • Chip: An Apple M1 chip or later is installed.
    • Processor: An Intel processor is installed.
  3. If you have a chip installed, reply to the Courier Recovery confirmation email stating that you have an Apple M1 chip.

The Courier Recovery Specialist will format the external drive to make the external hard drive compatible with your Mac.
